Project Introduction

Pittsboro is located within the fast growing Triangle Region of North Carolina and is projected to grow to over 50,000 people within the next few years. New amenities will be needed to service the new residents and maintain quality of life for existing residents.

The Town updated their Parks System Master Plan in 2019. The level of service analysis showed that over half of the town was not within a half mile radius to a park.  The plan illustrated over 30 proposed parks to meet the growing demand in the region.

There are also multiple planned local and regional trails proposed within Pittsboro that will connect to the greater North Carolina network. Some of these proposed trails are located adjacent to the new park in this study.

Pittsboro has 8 parks in its system, ranging from small parks to 50 acre forested parks. There are about 112 acres of park space in Pittsboro with a planned addition of 72.6 acres. Below is a list of the existing park facilities:

  • Kiwanis Park (3.48 Acres)
  • Rock Ridge Park (52 Acres)
  • Mary Hayes Barber Holmes Park (10 Acres)
  • Town Lake Park (34 Acres)
